Phunyakorn, a young Karen who graduated from the Mae Sot hospitality and catering training centre in Thailand, has just been hired by a top Thai restaurant. Proud of his achievements, he can now support his family back in the village. In Beirut, despite the tensions that are shaking the country, Soumaya is regaining her confidence and exploring different career paths to make an informed choice. In Abidjan, Corinne, a daring entrepreneur, is seeing her new range of ready-to-eat purées win over many customers.
Behind these paths lie talent and perseverance, backed up by human and technical support from the IECD and its partners. Alongside these young people and entrepreneurs, the IECD, true to its mission as Sowers of the Future, is pursuing its commitment as a development entrepreneur: to offer everyone the means to move forward, to project themselves with confidence and to build their own future.
In a changing world, the challenges are multiplying. In order to meet them, the IECD is entering a new strategic cycle, with a clear determination to concentrate its efforts where it has the greatest impact – youth employability and entrepreneurship support, two powerful levers for economic and social development. At a time when the international solidarity sector is undergoing profound transformations, this new phase requires to adapt our model in order to spread our most transformative actions.
Like Phunyakorn, Soumaya and Corinne, the IECD chooses active hope: the kind that turns uncertainty into opportunity, and dead ends into paths for the future.
