A word from our director
Get trained to act
Men and women are at the heart of the development process. They are its essential purpose and its driving force. This belief was the fundamental reason for creating the IECD, 20 years ago, in 1988. These essential values inspire the way the Organization carries out its projects and guarantees their durability through time. We take into consideration all the individual factors which make up a person and offer adapted comprehensive training which is human, general, professional and social. The IECD’s actions were first concentrated on a few “historic” countries such as Cameroon, Lebanon and Madagascar, but quickly spread in the middle of the 1990s to many other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and quite a few countries in South-East Asia and Latin America. The Near East also came to be part of our projects. To meet the requirements of emerging countries more adequately and to create closer links with partners, to accompany them more efficiently and to enhance the different phases of the projects, the IECD decided to strengthen its presence on the field by creating delegations, first in Africa, and, in 2007, in Beirut for the Near East countries. For the IECD, partnerships are the key to successful projects: they ensure the transfer of skills and knowledge, the sharing of experiences and the handing-over of the project development to the beneficiaries. These project partnerships created between the IECD and local organizations are based on the total respect and awareness of local social and cultural diversities. This mutual responsibility, which is fully understood by all parties concerned, is a means of informing the public and private financers and donators of the results obtained and of how the provided financial and technical means are optimized. My team and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our website which we hope offers you an insight into the different activities of the IECD. Xavier BOUTIN |
